The Fault in our Stars

Sejal was a 27 year old who had never been in a committed relationship.

She had never wanted to be in one either. Marriage was not one of her priorities in life although her parents were after her since the time she had finished her studies and started working.

She kept on postponing till the time she happened to meet an old friend from school. It was a chance encounter at a common friend's place and there was an instant connect between them. Milind had been a popular guy in school and his charm seemed to have only grown in adulthood. He came from a well educated family and was working with an IT company.

They became good friends instantly and as time passed, her affection for him started getting stronger. After couple of months she took the bold step of asking him out and they decided to date each other. They were in a happy and mature relationship, going to office together, hanging out with each other's friends and taking care of each other's needs.

Everything was going great but then her parents started getting suspicious that she was dating someone. Finally she gathered enough courage to go and tell her parents. Her mom was supportive but her dad, being a typical dad, was quite stubborn in his opposition. Sejal tried to convince him and he finally agreed to consider meeting the boy she liked if their kundalis matched! She couldn't believe her luck and rushed to Milind with the good news.

In their minds they were already married and the ceremony was just a formality.

But then the nightmare of horoscope-matching began. They checked on various sites - some of them showed their astrological charts aligned while others predicted that they were a bad match. They tried to move to the real deal but the astrologers just made it more complicated! While some said it was a match made in heaven, others predicted that Milind would be unfaithful to her within the first year of marriage, and the relationship would give her nothing but grief.

Everyone had their own way of reading the charts and Sejal's father refused to budge till they were hundred percent sure. She couldn't believe that after all the convincing and cajoling, her father was stuck on this one insignificant detail & refused to budge! She began losing her self confidence and was slowly sliding into depression.

There were umpteen arguments at home and it seemed to have turned into a veritable battlefield. Her mother was caught between the her daughter's choice and the concern of her husband, and would end up with a severe headache every time the two fought. Things became so difficult that at one point of time she even decided to leave her house and run away with Mlind. He and his family supported her during all this time and seeing their steadfastness, her parents finally gave in and accepted their relationship.

Sejal is happy that they have finally agreed. But now, in her heart, a tendril of doubt has started spreading it's tentacles. Milind still loves her the same way and she does too and they shall be getting married by the end of the year.

But in her heart, there's always a suspicion nowadays and there's only one thought that keeps going on in her mind..

What if the astrologers were right...
